Deep in the Heart of Kindergarten

Blaine's turn! Today was Blaine's awards ceremony/mixer. We met in his classroom for lunch. It was pizza for the adults and happy meals for the kids. They even gave us the option of ordering a Happy Meal for our other children. Since Kylee (and Jillian) think they run the school were "decorating" for the end of school dance for the older kids, they stopped by to eat with us, too. They even ended up going to the awards ceremony with us since they think they run the school it was during their lunch time and they had already eaten with us. Mom Mom came, too. (How much do you LOVE this picture?) After mingling in the classroom for a while, we headed to the library for the awards ceremony. The decorations were SO cute, just like they were for Kylee's, and the kids were so excited! They started with a slideshow of pictures of their class and the activities throughout the year set to music. The songs were "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts and "Let Them Be Little" by Billy Dean. I was a wReCk! I told Joey they should have played AC/DC or something, and I would have been fine. But COME ON!
They started with certificates. Blaine got a reading award and, of course, his "diploma" from Kindergarten. Mrs. Murphy put the certificates in a really cool laminated folder with their class picture on the back, and on the inside, it had a letter from her and all their classmates' signatures. LOVE IT!

From there, they moved on to trophies. They started with attendance trophies, which we knew Blaine wasn't going to get. Then they moved on to academic achievers and said they had to have all As and Bs ~maybe, maybe~ AND all Es (Excellent), which means no red dots ~ok, maybe not~! Medals were given to the most improved students ~nope~! They also gave trophies for Mr. and Mrs. Wrangler, which is kind of best overall.

The citizenship award is an honor given to one student in each class. It represents the student who most represents leadership, responsibility, respectful for others, helpful to others, kind to others, and is most compassionate. BLAINE WON IT!!!!!!

You talk about one proud Mama, y'all. I was Claire Huxtable! See, Blaine isn't the only one who received the citizenship award. His sister did, too! I almost named this post Must Be Doing Something Right because BOTH of my kids got the Citizenship Award!!! BOTH OF THEM! But I came to my senses and realized this post is about Blaine, not me! So moving right along.....BOTH OF THEM GOT THE CITIZENSHIP AWARD!!

After all the awards were given out, the kiddos had a special treat for us.

Deep In The Heart Of Texas

Our last treat was a reception that was held outside with cake and punch. We were standing around visiting with Mrs. Murphy and other parents when Blaine said, "I'll be right back!" He came back with Coach Martinez. This is one of Blaine's P.E. coaches, who we quickly learned is VERY fond of our son, and the feeling is mutual. Evidentally, they talk baseball and life every day. Coach Martinez told us that Blaine had come and told him he had to meet his dad. Guess I'm chopped liver! He also told us it would be a long summer without his Buddy Blaine and he couldn't wait to see him after the summer. There were several other people who approached us to tell us how much they enjoy visiting with Blaine. So proud of this boy!

We went back to Blaine's classroom with Mrs. Murphyto get his "special treat." Then he headed to the farm with his Daddy. One more day of kindergarten..and it's only half day! I'm not sure my heart can take it!
