Opposites attract

So my children switched roles this week. Kylee got a bad (well, not really, but if you ask her) progress report, and Blaine got an award.

Kylee was very normal when she got home until around bedtime. Then she came to me teary and asked, "Mommy, can I speak to you privately in my bedroom?" She proceeds to hand me her progress report. The first place I look always is, Conference needed? It was checked no. So I begin to read and she had all S's (Satisfactory). Then I noticed one I (improvement needed). It was under, Observes rules. I was SHOCKED. My child is the rule follower AND enforcer! In fact, when we were trying to teach her I Doubt It (the card game otherwise known as Bullshit), she HATED it. She had to play with me and not by herself because she could't lie. Then the third hand she played with me, she said, "Mommy, can we please just not lie this one time?" Anyway...back to the subject at hand. So I turned to her and asked her what it was all about. She's already crying. She said, "Mrs. Erives asked everybody to stand up, and whoever's shirt was not tucked in was getting an I on their progress report." I laughed, which was very inappropriate in this rule-follower's eyes, and she quicky retorted, "Mom, quit laughing! I got an I!!" I told her she would not always be perfect, that I wasn't upset if that's really what it was about, and sent her to bed.

Now for the good news. Blaine got Cubbie of the Quarter at AWANA. All the three and four-year old Cubbies sat at the table coloring while the director explained exactly what it took to be the award-winning cubbie. OF course, the girls sat anxiously on the edge of their seats, absorbing every word. The boys colored, completely unaware. Finally she says, "And the Cubbie of the Quarter is: BLAINE!" My baby boy's head jerked up, eyes widened, mouth hit the floor. Then he starts walking, ever so smugly, towards the director. He stops, mid-stride, turns around to his fellows cubbies and says, "This is my first trophy...EVA!"

LOVE these kids!!!

Resolution

It's a new year, and my kids keep saying and doing the FUNNIEST things, and I just simply don't have time for memory books or baby books. So I AM I AM going to start doing this daily.

Last night during his prayer, Blaine said, as he usually does, "Thank you for everybody we love...and don't love." I have NO idea why he says and don't love, but he does. He also thanks God for everybody he knows..and doesn't know. Last night as he says, "And don't love," he says, "Like Pops." (my dad) I was thinking, oh no! He's going to say he doesn't love Pops, but then he said, "Because we love him so much." shew Then to top it off, as he ended his prayer, he said, "And thank you for making me a rock star." HA! Priceless! You see, he had been playing his little drumset in his room when I said, "It's time for bed, rockstar."

Kylee, of course, is still dancing and playing the piano. She got two teeth pulled on Friday, and was a real trooper. She asked the dentist if the tooth fairy still came if the teeth were pulled, and he assured her she did, and BECAUSE they were pulled, she got double the bucks. GREAT!!
