Take me out to the ball game

Blaine's t-ball coach treated us to a night at the Diablos last night. The kids had a BLAST! Of course, they didn't watch the game much, but it was fun for them just to play and be at the ballpark. I have NO idea why there's a chicken there, but they love him, too.

After the game, one of the players (from the opposing team..oh, well) gave Blaine a game bat, and several of the players put "autographies" on it. Then the kids got to run the bases on the field before the fireworks show.

Mommy is looking forward to a t-ball-less, low-key weekend. Kylee has a long day at dance tomorrow on the weekend before the big recital, but I do NOT have to be there! I will do laundry, cook, and lay my butt on the couch!

AWARDS!

The last 15 hours have been very "awarding" in the Onick house. Last night was the kids' AWANA's awards at church.

Blaine was picked to say his verse in the "big" church in front of everyone. I was a little afraid he would have stage fright...I have NO idea why. In case you can't understand, he is reciting John 3:16. He tells her at first that he doesn't know the whole thing. He really does, but in his Cubbie class this year, they only had to learn, "For God so loved the world, He gave his only son." They wanted him to learn the WHOLE verse for the ceremony, so when he gets to the rest, he acts like he doesn't know it. You'll see him sign Miss Melody for his next line. He doesn't need it, but he had it in his head that he did.

Because he said a verse, he did not sit with his Cubbie class. They had special seats reserved for the ones saying verses. You would have thought this piece of paper were engraved and made special just for him. He was SSSOO excited about it!

He did go on stage with his class, though.

Even though Kylee did not say a verse on stage, she was just as much a star. She has REALLY gotten over her shy stage fright and can laugh and joke and enjoy her time in the spotlight.

This morning was Kylee's awards ceremony at school. They did the cutest play, and she REALLY hammed up her voice as "Iggy the Piggy". I did video it, but I did it on the video camera and not my digital camera, so I don't know how to load it yet. I'll figure it out. It's probably too long to put on here anyway. Here's a still shot of Iggy.

Of course, Kylee took the cake, if you will, with awards. She got 7 certificates and two trophies. One trophy was for consistent honors throughout the year, and the other one was for the citizenship award. We are ssoo proud of her!

Here are pictures of the kids and Dad Dad and our family this morning. We missed Mom Mom, but understand why she wasn't there.

Happy Birthday, Dad Dad!!

All of us on Dad Dad's birthday. (Yes, we just came from Blaine's t-ball game, hince the orange shirts and Blaine's black eyes.)

May 12th, 2009....Dad Dad's 60th birthday! We took him to the Macaroni Grill for dinner because Kylee said they sing Happy Birthday in "oprah" (opera).

Singing Oprah

Every year since Kylee was born, we get Dad Dad a coffee mug with the kids' picture on it.

If you look closely in this picture, you can see the mug sitting on the table.

But this year, since it was a special "decade" year, Kylee wanted to get him something special. We found these personalized M&Ms.

Slurple (Purple)is Dad Dad's favorite color. (Well, I don't know if it REALLY is, but it's the kids' favorite color FOR him because he says "slurple".) The kids thought it was really cool to put their pictures on them, and the TLC is something Girlfriend and Dad Dad always have to give each other. (They're not close or anything)

After singing oprah (hehe), they also brought a little cake with a candle. Dad Dad did not get to blow out his own candles, but...

So happy birthday to the best Dad Dad, the best husband, the best Uno player, the best TLC giver, the best candy drawer haver, the best floating on your back in the pool partner, the best dance watcher, the best t-ball fan, the best attention giver, and the best "Dad he didn't have to be" in the world! We love you, Dad Dad!

Uncle Rynan came!!

What a great weekend! Uncle Rynan (that's how Blaine says Ryan) and Kylie surprised me and came to visit this weekend. It was so nice. They got here late Friday night, and Saturday was a very busy day for the Onicks, but we enjoyed them being here. Kylee had a sleepover Saturday at Lindsey's, so she missed some of the fun, but she enjoyed having them, too.

We got up Saturday morning and went to Blaine's t-ball game, which we won. YEA! Joey had to run to the farm for a couple of hours, so Ryan and Blaine went with him and shot squirrels and acted like boys. Kylie and I took Kylee (how funny, huh!) to dance, went in and fought the chaos to get her costumes for the recital May 24, then at lunch, then picked her up, then dropped her off at Lindsey's for the sleepover. I think all of that after rushing around to get Blaine fed and to his game has been total birth control for Kylie....at least for a while.

When the boys got back from the farm, Kylie really wanted to see the border, so we decided to go ride the Wyler tramway. It really is a neat thing to do in El Paso. Blaine didn't remember that we had taken him before, so he and Kylie were really excited about it. I also got some great pictures.

Then we headed to P.F. Changs for dinner, and the service was great! Thanks, Shawn! Then we took Blaine to play putt putt and ride go carts. It was a full, exhausting day, but so much fun. Thanks for coming Ryan and Kylie!

Nuptials No More and Highlight Hilarity

Remember my last post when I said my son was a bigamist? Now he's just a player, and I do not like it at all.....(but it is kinda funny since he's five!)

If you'll notice, I've taken the picture of the bride from last week down. While we all thought it was cute and funny, her daddy did not! He was not happy about it at all, so I've removed the picture. Although Blaine informed me he said they could still get married; they just didn't need to be kissing. I'm not sure what the deal is, so I'm just being safe.

It did not keep him down for long, though. Last night when he got home from AWANA, he informed me that he was going to have to break up with A (not using her name, since her dad wasn't loving the idea of the play marriage and I'm not sure how he would feel about her on my blog) and marry his Cubby friend, Abby. When I asked him why, he told me because A was beautiful, but Abby was beautiful-er.

This morning, I called Dad Dad to tell him about "Highlight Hilarity" (stay tuned..you'll understand soon) and "Nuptials No More". I had already dropped Kylee off at school, but Blaine was still in the car on our way to Terry's. I had just finished telling him the story of Blaine and Abby as we rang the doorbell to Terry's. Blaine turns to me and says in a most dramatic whisper, "Don't talk about any of that in here, okay?!"

Ok. Now Kylee. Last year in 3rd grade, Kylee met Ms. S when chosen to do UIL Writing. She was instantly in love with her and wanted her to be her 4th grade teacher. She was very sad when she wasn't her teacher, but does now LOVE the teacher she got. Anyway, she was chosen again this year for UIL writing, and Ms. S was the coach again. She STILL loves her and talks about her often.

I had never met Ms. S until Kylee's field trip. She was totally not what I expected! I expected the soft, maternal, stereotypical teacher. NOT because I think all teachers are (don't get hostile, teacher-friends), but because that is what my Kylee is drawn to....... so I thought. Ms. S is not a book to be judged by her cover. She is a hip, Harley-Davidson t-shirt and black leather vest wearing
hot chick. I was sssoo shocked.

So this morning Kylee was telling me about a girl that she didn't think her looks fit her voice. I told her, "You know, Ms. S doesn't look at all like I expected her to." Kylee said, "Yeah. You didn't expect her to have highlights in her hair, huh?" I almost spit the water in my mouth out laughing. But I just said, "Yeah, maybe that's it." ;)

We have a big week next week. The AWANA awards ceremony is Wednesday night. I'm not sure what either of them are receiving, but they select kiddos to recite a memorized verse at the ceremony. Blaine has been chosen to do that. Kylee's awards ceremony is Thursday morning, so we will be going to that. Stay tuned for pictures!

Going to the Chapel....ehhh...Terry's.....and we're gonna get maaarried!

My male child is a bigamist. lmao

Last summer (since I wasn't a blogger then, and this is also a memory I don't want to forget) Blaine came home from Terry's and told me that he and Danina were getting married at Cattleman's (the great steakhouse in Fabens) on Saturday. When I took him to Terry's the next day, Danina informed me that they were, in fact, getting married at CAttleman's. She told me they had picked Cattleman's because (her parents need to blog this) she had been there when her tia (aunt) got married..."Not the first wedding she had," she said. "It was the second time she got married. Because her second marriage was much better than her first!" Yes, she is four, too!

(THis is Danina's picture from a birthday party last fall.)

ANYWHO....last night Blaine informed me that I needed to take him to the store to buy a tuxedo because he was getting married. His big sister, of course, was TOTALLY egging it on, because she's the wedding planner, evidentally. I told him that he didn't need a tuxedo and that he had plenty of things he could wear, thinking this morning he wouldn't even REMEMBER what was going on. Boy was I wrong! (I, at this point, didn't realize yet the extent of the planning.) I also said, "Blaine, you're already married to Danina. You can't marry A. That's against the law." He ignored me.

This morning my groom gets up and is searching his closet for the perfect outfit for his bride. This is the boy who wants to wear pull-up whatever, nothing that buttons and a t-shirt to Terry's because, "It's just Terry's." (Not to mention the fact that when we were potty-training, there were problems with things that buttoned and him waiting too long and not getting them off in time and then getting in trouble for having an accident. Needless to say, THAT'S when he started wearing elastic-waisted bottoms only to Terry's) Oh, and he NEVER wants his hair combed because, "I"ll just wear a cap." So he finds his outfit, dresses himself, comes and asks me to brush his hair and, "Don't forget the gel!" THEN, as we're walking out the door, he wants his picture taken for his "wedding day".

On our way to Terry's in the car, he says, "Okay, that's it. I'm not doing it, can't get married." I said, "Why, buddy, what happened?" He said, "I just don't want to go to jail." I said, "Why would you go to jail?" He said, "'Cause it's bagainst (against) the law. You said it was." (hehe i SUCK as a mother!) So I explained to him about you can't be married to two girls, and I was just kidding, etc. He said, "Oh, ok, then my wedding is at 9 o'clock today." ;)

When we get to Terry's and he walks in, Terry commented that he looked nice he looked. I informed her he was dressed for his wedding. She dies laughing and says, "Oh, so you know?! Let me show you the pictures from the rehearsal yesterday." Well, now I hadn't heard about this rehearsal! She said she HAD to get her camera out yesterday because it was so sweet. They rehearsed the wedding AND their dance for after the wedding.

She's going to email me the pictures of the rehearsal yesterday, but for now here is the picture of my groom that he wanted taken this morning. Enjoy!
