What a week! So much going on, so little time!
I was so sick last week. I had an infection in my intestines and missed FOUR days of work! The kids, of course, did not slow down at all. It was picture day, last week for fund raiser, and Blaine's first double header (which I missed :()
I'm feeling MUCH better this week, and everything is back in full swing. Blaine had another double header Saturday, which I did make. He has been moved up in divisions to the 6/7 division. Because of the way they set up the seasons, if you are six before he end of the SPRING season in May of '10, you have to be in the 6/7 division. SO...most of our boys are ONLY five playing against some boys who are already 7. Those 7 yr olds look like GIANTS. Anyway, we are getting beat more than usual, but the boys are really improving and love it.
Blaine is getting in the swing of school. We're still working on the "lellow dots". He does real good for a day or two (three, tops) and gets green dots, then we're back to yellow. If he gets green, he gets a quarter. If he gets yellow, no tv or computer for that night. Do you think he cares? NO! I have to say, though, he has made the transition into school very nicely. He doesn't cry or complain. He does his homework
and is real proud to share the new things he has learned. It's really sad because he's learning so much! He now says "hexagon" instead of "sexagon" and "purple" instead of "slurple"....unless, of course, he's talking to Dad Dad. He is still my baby boy, though. The other night he came in and asked if he could have a snack. When I asked him what he wanted, he told me a "granilla mar" (granola bar). He knew maybe that wasn't right because when he said it, he kinda shook his head and laughed and said, "Is that right? Granilla Mar?" I said, "Yup!" hehe And now every day he wants a granilla mar in his lunch or for snack. :-)
Kylee is REALLY making me sad! She's growing up SSOO fast and becoming such a young lady. There are no notes in her backpack. She is expected to remember things or right them down herself. There was, however, a note in her backpack night before last about a health video they want to show the kids about "phsysiological and emotional changes that occur during puberty." Kylee and I have had many talks about these things over this summer. I decided at the end of the school year last year that this summer was the time to do it since she was getting close to that age, but was still young enough to hear it from her mother and believe it. So I asked her what she thought about it. I told her she wasn't going to hear anything that she and I hadn't already talked about, but I thought all her friends WOULD be going and if she didn't go, she'd be stuck in a room by herself doing some boring assignment to keep her busy. She said, "Mom, I don't need anybody to talk to me about sex. It's a common-knowledge thing." WOW!!! The video is next Tuesday, the 8th, and she still hasn't decided if she's going or not. I was right, though. All her friends are begging her to go because their moms are making them go.
This week was Mr. Garcia's (the favorite teacher ever) birthday. HIs students, along with the school nurse and the school principal decided to throw him a surprise birthday party. Not only was it a surprise, it was a gag. See, he LOVES the Redskins and his wife LOVES the cowboys. Their garage is painted one side Cowboy colors and one side Redskin colors. It's a pretty major thing in their lives, because students and parents alike have heard about this from him. So the birthday party was all Dallas cowboys. The kids planned an elaborate party. Everybody had a job and something to bring....blue and silver. Of course, Kylee signed up for the cake...she ALWAYS does. It was really cute. They did a really good job, and he was surprised. He says he's going to get them back, though!
One more "cutitude" from my first born. This morning we were on our way to school on a dreary, gray and cloudy morning. The weather man came on the radio and said, "SUnny this morning...." From the backseat my tween (Gag!) cutie said, "Sunny? Seriously, dude? You should look about the window!"
Thank you, God, for the joy of motherhood!

Happy 3rd Birthday, Kenzie Baby!
For McKenzie's birthday, she told everybody all she wanted was cherries and mashmallows.
LOTS of people listened, and she got exactly what she wanted. She also wanted a party, and she got a pretty grand one! There was swimming , presents
, fishing,
playing in the wormies,
a pinata
and cake!
She even got her gator!
Driving Miss Kenzie
Even Riley and Molly decided to get in on the fun!
Okay, well, maybe Molly wasn't as willing as Riley
Uncle Ryan brought turtles
Even the big girls had fun!
Can't wait for next year.

Max and other comforters
I'd like to introduce you to Max. We met Max about four years ago. Blaine was 18 months old and was always talking to somebody. When I say talking, I mean talking. This child came out of the chute talking, not babbling. Anyway, after several weeks of him talking when he was alone, one day I asked him who he was talking to. He turned to me with a straight, serious little baby face and said, "Max." When I asked him who Max was, he told me, "My brudda (brother.)" And so I was introduced to Max.
Max is very real, as you will soon see, but Blaine does not take it too far. If you ask him if Max wants something to eat or drink or something, he will whisper to you that he's not really real. But in every sense of the word, Max is real to Blaine.
At the time Max lived next door with "the boys". The boys were three pre-teen and teenage boys who lived next door. I'm not sure how it worked because Max seemed to always be at our house, but I was told he lived with the boys. Max was the best friend EVER. Blaine was NEVER bored, never lonely, never scared because Max made everything better. Max has done everything and been everywhere.
When we moved to the new house, Max moved in with us. I guess five houses was just too far for them to be apart. Blaine was still in a crib (He did, of course, stay there until he was FOUR because his crib was his "best friend", as was his diapers and his pacifier and everything else we had to take away. I finally MADE him get out when I was afraid he was going to break his arm or leg with it got stuck.) but I had a bed in his room, since it was the guest room before he was born. So Blaine slept in his crib, and Max slept in the big bed.
Once Max took a vacation to DisneyLand. Every night for five nights Max would call to relay all his many adventures to Blaine. Blaine would tell us, in detail, everything Max had done that day. He was like three. It was pretty amazing. Then this summer before our trip to the beach, Max had four beach beds, so he went up a week before us to prepare everything.
About a year ago, Max opened a hotel. It's location moves all the time, but I have a feeling it's pretty much like the Suite Life of Zach and Cody's hotel. Evidentally it's pretty awesome, but it's always too busy for us to go there. Or if somehow he has told us it's in a location we happen to be going, it moves.
About six months ago, Max was put in jail for driving into a tree. It was about the time we really started talking about kindergarten. I had a sinking sensation this would be the end of Max and Blaine's relationship since he was growing up. To my Mommy-pleasing surprise, it wasn't. Three days later Max was out of jail.
A couple of weeks later, my poor boy was totally exhausted one night. He came in, bawling, to tell me that his sister wouldn't play with him. I told him to call Max. He told me that Max was at the hotel. I told him to call the hotel; all hotels have phones. He told me that when he got thrown in jail, the police had turned the hotel's phone off. I told him to call his cell phone. He told me he already had, but that it rang in his bedroom, so Max left it there. This baby was beyond exhausted and asleep within 20 minutes of this conversation, but he KNEW what he was talking about. Tell me this guy isn't real!
To top it off, he has, evidentally, told his friends at school about Max. I wonder if THEY think he's real.
I obviously don't have a picture of Max, but MAYBE he's in this one or at least had something to DO with this one.
Whatcha think? And if you check the Vacation Part I post from last month, you will find a video Max is CERTAINLY in.
This is like Kylee's arm sucking that we thought she would stop when she started school. She puts her arm up to her face, right above her lips, and kind of sucks. She's not really sucking her arm, just more the air or something.
I actually have a video of her doing it in-utero. She has done it since day one, literally. She used to do it ALL THE TIME. Then as she got older, she started doing it just when she was tired or lazy or just needed some comfort. It gradually changed from her whole arm being up in her face to, if people were around, just kind of holding her chin in her hand with her finger above her lip. She will also "suck" on other people if she loves them so much.
We used to tease about her being in kindergarten, raising one hand to answer her teacher's question, with the other one across her face. Little did we know that would ACTUALLY happen. She has NO shame about it either. One time in second grade, Crystal (the smartest girl in school) asked Kylee what she was doing. Kylee, shameless, told her not to worry about it because it wasn't hurting her.
This girl went through stages where she would NOT wear long-sleeved shirts that were hard to push up because she would say, "I can't suck my arm." She has turned down lipstick, face-paintings, and halloween costumes that would make it too hard to suck her arm. She is now in the fifth grade, and STILL sucks her arm. As I said, if there are people around, it has gotten a lot more suptle but frequent, nonetheless.
Remember the Kylee's first date post?? She sucked her arm in the movie, very inconspicuously, but.....hey, when you need a little comfort, you need a little comfort!

Watch out for the strangler
Just as we left the house this morning, there was a stray dog running outside. Kylee was very worried about it and hoped it's owner found it soon. As we turned off of our street, there was yet another stray dog. Kylee said, Mommy, there sure are a lot of strangling (yes, strangling) dogs today. Then when we got TO the school, you guessed it, there was ANOTHER stray dog. The cars were swerving to miss this one. Kylee said, Mommmy, watch out for the strangler! I said, Kylee, I see it. It's ok. As she and Blaine got out of the car, she said, Mommy, can you please go get that strangled dog? hahaha!
The MINUTE she got in our car at my Mom's to head home, she remembered. She said, Mommy, did you get that strangled dog? I said, Somebody had already caught the strangler before I got to him. She was pleased.
I was working on Blaine's homework with him tonight, and we were working on shapes. One of his shapes was a "hexagon." When we got to that one and I pointed at it, he said, Sexagon! And he said , Sexagon every time! Then he was telling me that I was making supper like a pattern because I kept doing the same thing. The he said, Because Mrs. Murphy was teaching us patterns today. First there's a boat, then a fish, then a sail-a-boat. Fish, boat, sail-a-boat. Fish, boat, sail-a-boat.
They are growing up SSSOOO fast, and I know these things will go away. Like Kylee's to-got-for (forgot to), Had-Dad (Dad Dad), and becited (excited), and Blaine's fouy (four), and hectacolla (helicopter), and Max (which deserves another blog all to itself). I'm going to document, document, document!

Don't Agnore Me!
What a week! School is in full force and effect, including homework for BOTH kids!
Kylee, of course, LOVES it and is ALREADY teacher's pet. Her homework is so hard, though, that I can't help her....not that I ever was good at math, but come on, it's FIFTH grade. Whatever. Thank God for Joey. She has her first male teacher, and he is the coolest ever, apparently. I personally think he's a genius. He is VERY strict, I mean VERY strict. If they don't say, Yes, sir, that's a problem. But...he masks it. He lets them chew gum in class, well, until the FIRST time he finds gum somewhere other than their mouths or the trash can. You KNOW it won't be long before those 10 and 11 year old kids put it somewhere else, but then he can blame it on them. For rewards, they can either have a free dress pass or give him 12 songs and he'll burn them a CD. See, for 10 and 11 year olds, that's GENIUS! If he didn't let them chew gum or make them CDs, he would be so mean. Instead, he's so cool. Genius. She also feels really grown up because she gets to pick Blaine up from the Y.
Blaine, on the other hand, is used to BEING in charge at Terry's, talking when he wants, and it doesn't work in Mrs. Murphy's class. Every day in their agendas, she puts a red, yellow, or green dot. Pretty self explanatory, right? Well, Thursday he had a "Lellow dot" for talking too much. When I asked him what happened, he informed me that people were talking to him, and he HAD to answer them. "What do you want me to do, Mommy, AGNORE them?" ugh! He got another "Lellow dot" yesterday for talking too much. Houston, we have a problem. To top it off, he's had a head cold for about a week. He LOVES that he's a big boy and doesn't have to take naps, though. Saturday he was ssoo grouchy (and didn't feel good) that I told him he had to lay down. He told me he was too big for naps. I told him just to take a rest. He was so crabby and didn't feel good and we had plans for that night, so he HAD to. He said fine but he was a kindergartener and was not going to close his eyes, just watch TV. This is how I found him in less than 5 minutes.
One night last week, Joey and I were sitting in the back yard, (because, after all, it is our NEW habit to sit out there and just be together after the kids go to bed since we have a beautiful backyard with a nice fountain and all) giving the dogs their bed time treats and love. I was loving on Winchester, and Remington came over to be part of it. Chester just reached over and slapped him in his face like a human. It was hysterical!
Since I got my fire pit for my birthday from Dad and Dawn (Thanks, guys! I LOVE it!!), the kids have been BEGGING to do smores. So after a long week back to school, I decided they deserved something fun. We invited the Hayes over for burgers, dogs (hot dogs, that is), and smores. The kids had SUCH a good time.
Jack and Blaine eating their hot dogs in the clubhouse of the swing set
Kylee and Katy getting ready for smores
Roasting the marshmallows
It was really a blast.
I'm thinking about camping out in our backyard Friday night and trying to see if we can see any of the meteor shower. I had friends last night say they saw nothing but a few falling stars, but we'll see if anybody gets any better results tonight. Maybe I'll be the cool mom and let them camp out on a school night. We'll see.

First day of school
*****UPDATE**********************************************************
So the first day of school is over. Both kids had a good day overall.
When I picked up Blaine, the first thing he said to me was, "Mommy, Mrs. Murphy is the bestest teacher EVER!" Then he said, "But I need to tell you a secret." I bent over, and he whispered in my ear, "A kid on the slide called me a fat ass." I said, "What happened?" He said, "Well, I was going up the slide with my friends, and he told me, Move you fat ass. And then I said, Whatever, dude. And he said, You're not in my class, and you're not my friend. You're just a fat ass. So I said, Whatever." I said, "Did you tell the teacher?" He said, "No, Mommy, I'm not a tattletale!"
Kylee LOVES her first male teacher! He's "so cool" but very strict. "Mom, if we don't say Yes, sir, he does NOT like it. She was also called a name. Some boy told her she looked like a chola. My porcelain skinned, white as they come and doesn't tan blue-eyed girl looks like a chola? Whatever!
***********************************************************************
Today was the day, first day of school. My first born started FIFTH grade, and my BABY started kindergarten.
**Excuse me while I collect myself.**
Both got up this morning with no problem, ate breakfast, and got dressed. When I brought Blaine's uniform down for him to get dressed, he said, "But I wanted to wear my Spiderman shirt." I said, "Blaine, you don't get to pick what you wear anymore. You have to wear a uniform, just like your sister." He said, "I wish I was still a boy." I didn't respond, just let it go. Kylee, of course, didn't talk much before she was dressed. She never does.
When we got to the school, Blaine was very lovey dovey with his sister. He wanted her to walk by him. Then he asked if I could take a picture by the doors to the school. He posed, and I went to take the picture. THen he said, "I want Diddy in my picture!"
We went upstairst to Kylee's room first, since we had already been to Mrs. Murphy's room at kindergarten orientation last week. While we were there, he was standing close to her, hugging her, just wanted to be close to her.
We met Kylee's teacher, Mr. Garcia. I really like him, from the little time I spent with him. His room is totally decorated in Redskins stuff. He was playing some kind of card game with Kylee when I left. Of course, she DID NOT want me taking pictures in her classroom, but I turned the flash off on my camera and just snuck one in.
Then I took Blaine down to his classroom with Mrs. Murphy. We walked in and she was handing out name tags.
He put his on, turned around, and said, "I love you. Bye."
I said, "Do you want me to leave?" He said, "Why not? If you want to stay, you can stay. I don't care." I said, "I think I will for a minute." Then when I went to leave, it was so no big deal.
And so it begins. Wish us luck!

Kylee's first "date"
It is SSOO nice to be home, back in a normal routine. The routine is fixing to get even more "normal" because the kids start school....tomorrow. :-( Kylee will be in 5th grade. :-( :-( Blaine will be in kindergarten. :-( :-( :-(
Now for my fourth :-(! Kylee had her first "date" yesterday. She and Colton Evans met at a wedding in May of 2007, yes, 2007. They have not seen each other since then, but they have emailed and texted on and off. In the last couple of months, they have actually started talking on the phone. Friday night I got a phone call, and it was Colton. He wanted to know if he could take Kylee to the movies on Saturday. I told Joey what was going on, and Joey said he needed to ask him. (Dads! UGH!) Anyway, I handed Joey the phone. Long story short, Joey told him he could take her as long as the parents went. ***BTW, Colton is Shelly Walker's (maiden name) son.***
Saturday morning Kylee got up and her right eye was REALLY red and swollen from allergies. She was taking the medicine I usually have to FORCE her to take on her own, and using a water bottle to flush out her eye. She came and told me she wasn't sure if she wanted to go, for him to see her that way. So I told her I would call Shelly. She quickly changed her mind and said she would go. Then came the all too familiar dilemma of what to wear. She picked out four outfits and let BLAINE, yes, BLAINE, pick what she wore.
She got dressed, kept water in her eye, and started cleaning. She's wiping down the coffee table with Windex, and says, "Mom, aren't you going to ask me why I'm cleaning?" So, of course, I asked, and she replied, "When I get nervous, I just start cleaning."
We were going to meet Shelly and Colton at the movie theater. On the way there, she started spraying to peppermint spray we keep in the car for car sickness. I said, "Are you okay? Are you car sick?" She said, "I think I'm gonna puke, but I'm not car sick. I'm just SSSOOO nervous." She said, "Look, I'm STILL cleaning." (I let the kids write on the car windows with dry erase markers, and she was forcefully wiping them down.) Then she asked, "Mom, when we get there, what snack should I get?" I said, "Well, you usually get a movie meal." She said, "Yeah, but I don't want to look like a baby!!" I said, "Kylee, sometimes I get movie meals." She said, "Yeah, so does Mom Mom. Okay. I'll get a movie meal."
When we got to the theater, she couldn't even look at him. He was so sweet and told her he wanted to buy her a movie meal (YAY!), and they sat side by side (but she told me I had to sit on her other side) to watch the movie. When the movie was over, she still could hardly look at him, but they made plans to get together again soon. As SOON as we were in the car, they were texting back and forth and have been ever since.
AWWW, puppy love! I was going to take pictures, but I didn't want to TOTALLY mortify her. Maybe next time.
When my in-laws asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I told them I wanted a fountain like the one my father-in-law had made for their house. So this weekend, Jimmy came to install it. It is SSSOO awesome!!! He and Joey installed it, and it is BEAUTIFUL. This is what it looked like before Joey added his touches.
After Joey's touch
Isn't it AWESOME!!!! BIG THANK YOUS to Jimmy and Polly!!
Well, tomorrow is a big day in the Onick household! There will be pictures (and stories, I'm sure) of the first day of school tomorrow.
Home is where MY heart is!

July - The Vacation, Part II
We dropped Joey off at the airport and headed to the hotel. Kyle and Myra had gotten there the day before, and had headed for Fiesta Texas early in the day, so we had almost a full day to kill.
We went and got the salt off the outside of the car, got the girls piggies done, and bought Blaine some new sunglasses. Then we headed to the hotel to swim. Daneane came to see us, so we went to Olive Garden and ate dinner with her.
Eating Torta di Chocolate
When the Taylors got back, we headed to the pool and went to bed early for our big day at Sea World the next day.
McKenzie's trick she learned at Camp Dad Dad and Mom Mom
The next morning, after breakfast at IHOP (which Blaine calls Hip Hop), we headed for Sea World. We saw Shamu, the skiers, and the pirate show. At every show we went to, the kids, of course, wanted to sit in the "splash zone." They thought they were sssoo big when the adults DIDN'T sit with them and they got to sit by themselves.
McKenzie was good with the adults, as long as she had gum
Blaine after he got splashed
Kylee and Kellie sitting by themselves
Shamu!
We even went to the water park!
When we came out of Shamu, I couldn't find Blaine. Michael was laughing and said, "He's right there. This is where I found him He told me that he had waited too long and thought I would be more mad if he peed in his chonies than I would be if he peed in the bush. UGH! And we start kindergarten next week! Scary!
Kylee even got picked to be IN the pirate show! But I couldn't get the video to load on here, so here's the link.

McKenzie shares her ice cream with Blaine on the way out of the park
The next day, we just hung out, did the typical San Antonio stuff, rode the boat on the riverwalk, went to Bass Pro Shop, etc. Riding the Riverwalk boat
Eating at Bass Pro Shop, letting Kellie take pictures
At Bass Pro Shop
Sunday we headed home to get back to normal life....and STAY HOME a while!
