Who Let the Dogs Out

We've been so busy going, going, going, that we just continued right up to the New Year. We dropped Kellie off in Sierra Blanca to her Daddy New Year's Eve morning, and came right back to El Paso to spend our Christmas money. We spent it like we stole it! I got a new couch, a range microwave, a new garbage disposal, a new entryway chandelier, and new boots. I only got to bring home the chandelier and boots. The rest are for another post when they arrive.

The kids were sick of going, so we decided our New Year's Eve would be a trip to the movies, the girls to see New Years Eve, and the boys to Mission Impossible. We got home around nine o'clock, not expecting to see the new year arrive. As soon as we got home, we went to say good night to our puppies. Only he side gate was open, and the big dogs were gone. The kids and Joey jumped in his truck, and I went on foot to find them. Then I also got in my car to search. We found Bisbee pretty quickly about two streets over from the house, but were shocked and discouraged when he was without Chester.

We spent the next almost three hours looking, to no avail. The kids were bawling, and their parents were close to it. About 11:30, we decided to call it a night, with a plan of putting up flyers with his picture and offering a reward, and a trip to the pound to see if he had been picked up. Blaine said if he was at the pound, he would spend all of his money to get him out, even if it meant he had none left. It was a depressing mood for sure.

As we were going to bed, Joey said he was going to talk to the teenage kids across the street who were playing pool in their garage with no end in sight. We decided it couldn't hurt for him to just ask them to keep their eye out. Blaine had cried himself to sleep; Kylee was somberly watching TV; and I was headed for a stress relief bath. The next thing I know, I hear Joey say, "Well, go in there and let them know you're ok." Those kids had already seen Chester and held on to him.

Ten minutes later, we rang in the New Year happy again after a long, painful last few hours of 2011.

So welcome, 2012. Please continue to be good to us!
