Well "Baby" Check-ups

Joey took the kiddos to their 13-year and 8-year well "baby" check-ups Wednesday. I'm taking Friday (today, yee haw!) off to go to Austin for a girls weekend, and I didn't want to take both days. He's never taken them, but I figure they are old enough for him to handle it.

Everybody was happy and relaxed because we knew 13 and 8 are not shot years.

They did their hearing and eye tests

with perfect scores. Yay! Kylee is 5' 3/4" (and whole 1/4 of an inch shorter than me) and weighs 98 pounds. (We won't talk about our weight difference) Blaine is 49.5 inches, or 4'1" and weighs 52.8 pounds.

All went well. Until the flu shot was mentioned.

I wasn't there, so I don't know the exact story, but I have been there for the last 12 of these, so I can envision it. And I got a text from Joey asking about flu shots. They are asthmatic. They gotta have 'em. Then I got a text asking, Now or next week? I could not for the life of me figure out why next week! But then he said, Never mind. I got a moment alone with her, so now she's getting it. Then I realized KYLEE was trying to talk him out of it. I know exactly how it goes with her. Read: DISASTER! Then I got a text that said, I'm gonna beat her. hahaha Oh, I so know how he felt. Blaine, of course, never batted an eye.

Flu shots are over and everybody is fine. Last night, I swear Kylee looked just like her Aunt Jackie.

And today is western day at school for Blaine, even if he did try to fake sick this morning to keep me from going to Austin. When I told him he WAS going to school, he was obviously fine.

Welcome to McDonald's

Kylee's school had a fundraiser tonight at Mickey D's. As part of her student council president duties....wait! Did I mention she is president of student council again? Oh yea. She is. She ran again, but didn't. She decided to run, but they didn't have enough people run for all offices, so her teacher just placed the candidates in their positions. So she's president.

Anyway, as part of her presidential duties, she had to 'work' their school fundraiser at McDonald's tonight. So I went to take pictures. Enjoy.

I really think the girl is coming out of her shell.

What Would You Do

Last night I was laying in my bed watching PrimeTime's What Would You Do. Kylee was organizing the pantry; Joey was laying on the couch watching TV; and Blaine was just doing his thing. He came and crawled in bed with me, begging me to change the channel. When I refused, he just started watching with me. It was about making your children wear a sandwich board for punishment.

When I asked him what he would do if I made him do that, he had plenty to say. First he asked me if I would really do that. I asked him if he thought I would. He said he totally thought I would. I agreed that I totally would, only if he were stealing or something really bad. I asked him if he would still love me if I did that. He said he would but that he would love his daddy just a little more. I said, What if your Daddy agreed with me in doing it? He said, "I would still love him a little more because he would just be agreeing with you. I would still love you as big as the house, but he would be just a little more." He was showing me by putting his hands flat and one just on top of the other to demonstrate the difference in the love he would have for us.

So I said, "What would you DO if I did that to you?" He said, "As soon as I got home, I would run away!"

Me - Where would you go?

Blaine - To my friend's house.

Me - And don't you think your friend's parents would call me and tell me?

By the look on his face, I could tell that had not crossed his mind.

Blaine - Then I would just go to another friend's house until I found one that would not call you.

Me - And what if I call the cops and report you as a runaway and they come get you and put you in jail?

Blaine - I know you wouldn't do that because you wouldn't put your baby boy in jail.

Me - If my baby boy ran away, I would!

Blaine - You wouldn't have to report me to the police. I would come home after I ran away for a little while. I would just run away to scare you to death. Then I would come home and tell you that's what you get for putting me on the street with a sign.

What a turkey!! So then he wanted to go ask Didi what she would do if I did that to her. She really wasn't as into our conversation as we were. She was watching a movie on her iPad by that time. She just looked up and said, "I just wouldn't organize the pantry." (Now you know why I started the last post with her organization skills, so you could understand that comment. It just ran away with me when I got started!)

Now Blaine wants to record What Would You Do every week. He loved it!

Thursday night I had another conversation with my son that was blog-worthy. 'Cause, you know, that's how I gage all conversations with my children. He and Joey had had a 'fight' at his baseball game that night. Kylee and I were at a dress fitting and couldn't go. After the kids went to bed, Joey and I were in our room talking about it. Joey went downstairs to feed the dogs. Blaine came into my room and said, "You know I can hear you talking to Dad about our fight, right? And I don't appreciate it, and I will regret it!"

Y'all, it took everything I had not to bust up laughing in front of him. I didn't. I just told him that Daddy was telling me about it, and we had said nothing bad about him, and he needed to go to bed.

Since I have no pictures of conversations, I'll leave you with some I took this week with his BFFs.

Talking 'Bout My Girl

My baby is growing...a lot. She's also organizing...a lot. It's so funny to me to see how different she is from me, too, and how much like her Mom Mom she really is. I guess it's payback since I'm so little like my Mama and so much like my Grandmommy. Maybe payback isn't the right word. Maybe it's just the way the world turns, the days of our lives, all my children. Sorry. I'm rambling.

Kylee has grown FIVE inches this year. As the weather is getting cooler, the poor girl has NOTHING to wear. The jeans I bought her in February won't even come up over her hips. (I actually have a picture of that, but don't want to completely humiliate my daughter.) That, combined with Ryan's upcoming wedding, has led us on several shopping trips lately. We had to find a dress

for she, Kellie, and McKenzie to wear to the wedding, which led to having to find shoes to wear with it. Y'all, her foot is bigger than mine! I wear a 6 1/2. She wears a 7. I will tell you, as we shopped, I became very concerned there was going to be a fight. I mean, not that I don't know who would win, because I would win. Every time. But I really didn't want her to have to wear flats. It's a double edge sword, in that she is 13 and should be able to wear a little heel, but she's only 13 and will not wear a four-inch one! She would have been fine with it, even liked it.

I am not.

After days of looking, we did finally find a compromise.

It's a 2 inch heel. I would have preferred more like a one, but it just wasn't happening.

Here's where she is like her Mom Mom. She organizes everything. Ever-ree-thing. With her own money, she bought a labeler and label tape. The first day it came in, she used every bit of that roll of label tape.

Last week she even organized her brother's entire room! Last night, on a Friday night, she came home and organized my pantry.

She's obsessed with it, and I love it. Maybe because I am not obsessed with it, but now I don't have to be!

When I started this post, it had a different title and was headed in a totally different direction. I'm gonna have to post twice in one day.

Kylee's TV Debut

Remember this post? I've finally seen the commercial.

So proud of this girl!! And she's so excited, and that makes my heart soar.

It Has Begun *Updated*

I took Kylee to dance while ago. Just as she was walking in, I realize the little thief wearing MY SHIRT!! First she "borrowed" my hairspray, then my shoes, then my make-up, now my shirt! It has begun. I declare war!

UPDATED**
I picked her up and she said, Everybody likes this shirt. I'm gonna have to wear it more often.

Yup, GAME ON!

Enjoying the Small Things

Labor Day weekend we had several offers for travel. The kids, and their mother, unanimously voted to STAY HOME!! We feel like we haven't been home on a weekend since school started.

Aunt Jackie was in town, and she came and spent Saturday afternoon with us.

She really wanted to go to Chico's while she was in town, so we took her there and to the mall for some makeup. After she went back out to Nana's, Blaine went with Elijah to a birthday party; Joey went to the valley for a fish fry; and Kylee and I curled up on the couch to watch movies. When Blaine got home, he told me that the party had a "juice box, and that's what made it a disco party."

Sunday morning, Joey went to Ft. Davis to meet Uncle Curtis. Blaine was supposed to go, but he really just wanted to stay home. The kids and I spent all day outside! They started by riding their new bikes they had gotten Friday night with their money Pops and DD gave them while we were in Ruidoso.

Then they washed my car.

Blaine washed his bike,

while Kylee painted the curb.

while I sat in my chair and read a book.

Then they rode their bikes again. Then they roller bladed.

I kept reading in my chair outside in the garage with a fan going. They kept saying, "This is the best day ever." And I kept thinking, "I feel SO content! It really is the small things!"

They rode their bikes some more, and then they found a game Papa and Nana had given them and decided to play it.

Then they rode their bikes again. As they were riding their bikes, the man down the street who now lives in the house we used to live in was outside. Kylee really wanted to go in and have a look around. Blaine doesn't remember anything about that house, so he didn't really care. But since his sister kept talking about it, he went down and asked the guy if they could go in. He let them. Kylee was so excited. Blaine recognized not one thing.

As the sun went down, they started a knife throwing contest. It was a butter knife Kylee had used to get the silly string off my sunroof while they were cleaning the car. When she threw it off the car, it landed straight up in the grass. Now they wanted to have a contest.

It was such a great day! To top it off, we ordered pizza and came in to watch Monsters, Inc...on VHS! They acted like they had never seen one! It was so 'old-timey' to them, and I felt old-timey as they went on and on about how cool it was!

Sunday morning, we got up to more VHS watching, Kylee's first dance recital.

I teared up! She was three years old, out there busting a move to Betty Boop and Staying Alive and knew every.single.step! I wish I could figure out a way to get that archaic VHS tape on here. So great!

Joey called and he and Uncle Curtis were headed into town, and Aunt Jackie was going to come in and have lunch with us, too.

We took Uncle Curtis to the airport and saw Aunt Jackie on her way to Albuquerque in the car Kylee hopes will one day be hers,

we got to our day-before-school-day chores.

Even after all our travels and adventures, sometimes it's nice to sit back and remember, it really is the small things, too!
